The Birth Of Cool

Well not really. This is a little update to the now-defunct Bill Cooney blog.

I'm moving to Japan in August to start a new adventure. Go check it out here. Also, a stuff up with webhosts and such has meant that I have lost my images from my custom blogger template. Enjoy the refreshed layout here, courtesy of Blogger's standard templates.

Cheerio.

Thanks For Stopping By

This blog means a lot to me. Chronicled within its archives are the first girl I ever cared seriously about, my first job, my first film's premiere, my uni graduation and a whole lotta other stuff. Alas the time has come to close this chapter in my history.

This is not entirely voluntary. Certain people have stumbled upon this blog whom I would rather hadn't, which is probably my fault for having it in my signature on the BAS forums. Nevertheless, action has been taken in the form of the ending of this record of the the past 2 and a bit years of my life.

I never was any good at a paper journal, but there was something about the ease of updating crap from place to place via the internet. I'm gonna arrange to print this out in the next few weeks so I can bind it and have a record of it for my own personal history.

Thanks guys. It was fun while it lasted. Thanks to Shawni for the great blog layout I've stuck with for all these years, even though you offered to redo it again and again. Thanks to my friends for visiting and commenting. Nice to know that someone was out there.

Not good fun

I'm kind of spooked and stressed and freaked out.

I have had two traffic incidents in the past 24 hours.

The first one involved a work van's brakes failing severely and slamming me into the guard rail on the south east freeway then skidding across three lanes of traffic and running 50m along the embankment with the engine jammed on until i could shut it off.

Which leaves my job in jeopardy even though I've been complaining about the poor response of the brakes and such for about 7 months and other people have been complaining after driving that van too. It does leave my lower back severely jarred though and makes sleep, sitting and walking painful.

The second one happened earlier today while I was driving into the city with Dan, Michael and Brad for GENTS camp stuff and involved a collision with a motor cyclist which (thank god) resulted in no injuries but did result in hefty insurance monies to be paid.

I feel really tapped and stressed and freaking and I'm very not well now both physically and emotionally.

The Hair!!!

So I now have labeled all the strawberry*drop DVD/CD sets for supanova, as well as dyeing my hair orange...

I bleached for about 10 minutes then coloured... I conditioned 5 times during the process though, so my poor fine hair didn't dissolve from the chemicals. Have also stenciled my shirts. I bought pants for one cosplay, but couldn't find the top for the other...

Like, no jackets in spring? What is this? Queensland??!??!?!

9.14.2004

Well Now...

updated
Okay. Because I am too tired to fix it, I will just link later tonight after I update thedrop (the official website).

Also, I love cake. Seriously. No. Not that seriously.

The DVD will be $14 and you can buy genuine Strawberry*Drops for $1.20 a bag too!!!

9.13.2004

Permission To Land!!!

Finished the final edits on Strawberry*Drop's DVD.... Now am duplicating like, 30 of them. I was only going to do 25, but I want to give some to certain people as freebies. Also have been finishing the cover which I will post later tonight...

Very tired, but am working tomorrow and will have to finish stuff and get it printed as well...

Now I know how Patrick felt last year!!!

What A Weekend

Well, I went to Ray's on Friday night. We ate Red Rooster, drank alcohol, I made brilliant Martinis again.

We ran out of vodka and there was a mercy dash made to the Colmslie for more. The triumphant return of the brave souls with Absolut vodka made a big difference. They didn't taste like they were made with AvGas anymore.

Anyways, watched all of season three of Black Books which was fun. Then I crashed at Ray's on the floor.

Work on Saturday morning installing plasma screens at the Family night club. Was in the city eating noodles with BAS ppls in the afternoon, looking out the window watching a Korean film being shot (guy drives his car on two wheels all the way down Mary street from George to Albert) when I got a phone call to go sort out some woman's slide projector in Chapel Hill. I mean, bugger! I had to drive against Suncorp Traffic (Broncos were playing) all the way. Then it turns out the projector remote wasn't plugged in properly. Grrr.

Went to BAS, where Krazy tried to kill himself but failed. The ambos came anyway so now all we need is a BAS member to be taken away by the fireys and that's all the emergency services bar the SES, which isn't a real emergency service anyway.

Went to Steiny's and looked at the DVD. All good. Gotta make some changes and do some menu fixes, but apart from that all gooooo!!!

Just need to organise my crap for Supanova this week.

9.05.2004

Baby We Were Born to Run!!!!

Or so says The Boss (Springsteen) as he blares from my stereo whilst I gaze at the sun-dappled wallscrolls. Many of which are duplicated on the desktop of MY NEW PHONE!!!

I gots me a new phone (Motorola v600). Does mp3s for ringtones, etc, so I have Chiyo-chan's cooking song for a ringtone and Kero saying "Konninachiwa!!!" for an SMS alert. As well as the afore mentioned desktops. I resized a bunch of my computer desktops so it's all nice and pretty now.

Also bought Springsteen's greates hits for $10 the other night. Rocking, huh? I'm loving it. Also am loving Awful Truth series 1 and 2 so I'm filled with lefty pride. Or something.

Hmmm... Supanova drawing near... I must finish the cover art for the Strawberry*Drop DVD/CD, do the insert booklet, bag up the Strawberry*Drops, burn copies, print the labels, covers and inserts, package them all. And I've also gotta buy some stuff for cosplay...

DaaDeeDeeDaaDeeDeeDaaDeeDeeDaaDeeDaa... MUTHAFUCKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^_^

Even A Monkey Can Draw Manga!!!

Awwk!! It's true. At least it is the title (anglicised) of a great little tankubon I picked up yesterday. Really top notch stuff. Also, I have finished the menus and such for the Strawberry*Drop DVD. Will now proceed to do totally unreal more hidden things to it to make it Action Filled and Jam Packed.

Also saw The Village today. Figured out "The Twist" about 15 minutes into it, however wasn't sure whether that was the twist until more things happened. Then I knew for sure. Unlike the tards behind me who were all like, "What? I don't get it."

I laugh at you, foolish pop-puppets.

15 days till Supanova!!!

8.31.2004

Finished That One!!!

The DaaDeeDeeDaa video clip featuring Doom Spiral is done. You shall be able to purchase it at Supanova on "A Very Pink DVD". Oh yes.

Also, my brain is creamy and filled with goodness.

Boingggg!!!

8.30.2004

Sore

Massive migraines. Gonna go home early and sleep. I was supposed to stay here at uni till 10 but screw that. I want to die.

OMFG!!

So I didn't get the job at MusicLab. But. I did get my tax return, so here comes ProTools babay!!!!

But.

I went to QCA to check out some films the music for doing for. And. The producer's friend was there. And. She was cute. Like, OMFG cute. I'm such a loser though. I can't even remember her name. I'm sure we will meet again. And then I will ask her out. Then she will tell me she has a boyfriend and I'll feel like a tool. Poop.

8.20.2004

ZOMBIES!!!

Seriously, I'm so brain fucked. I had a dream last night where I was getting chased by zombies. I ended up getting caught in a very tight place by one and I had to gash its head off with a broken bottle. I think the fact that I had read the Zombie Survival Guide helped me in my dream, and also the fact that I knew it was a dream. I totally kicked arse. Then I woke up and had to go to uni.

All day video editing today.

All day, and then when I had my DVD rendering away, some little shits unplugged my hard drive by mistake. Because you know, a translucent IceCube drive looks like a big grey fucking MantaRay drive huh.

Bastards. So now I have left my drives overnight at uni to render, and will be doing the same thing tomorrow night so I have have these things done by Monday for the client.

Arse.

Bum.

Chiyo-chan's Cooking Song

tsukurimashou.. tsukurimashou.. sate sate nani ga dekiru ka na

God I love Azumanga Daioh. No. Really. Went out to do some recon for Supanova today. Surprises in the room. New layouts, new venues. Slight revisal of previous figures with some additions. But I think it's relatively locked in. Now to uni tomorrow for more video editing for RACQ. It's 97GB of data I don't need clogging up my drives, okay?

Get that shit off the damn drive and move on to my next two/three projects - City, a play I'm scoring/sound designing, 1,2,3,4, a doco about Patrick and his comic ness & Untitled - nice jazz-breaks type of CD with good vocalist.

tsukurimashou.. tsukurimashou.. sate sate nani ga dekiru ka na

Also, I have ingested no caffiene since Sunday. The headaches have stopped and I feel great. More energy throughout the day, sleeping betterer too.

Big Updata

Hoookay.

Well, last week I had a job trial. For a kick arse job. Truly cool and great and I would soo love it. Yes it's retail. and yes it's support (two of those things which suck, I know). But! It's a place I go to anyways, and I can do the work, and I liked it. It was cool.

But this week another guy is having a trial for it. We're both doing Honours at the Con, which is why we were offered. However. This guy is cool and he could also be doing the job too. And be good at it, so our trials were really, "Does this person fit in or piss people off or do things that could preclude him from being good at that job in terms of him fitting in to the workplace, allrighty y'all?".

I hope I get it. I would be sooooo good. And not poor. And also being able to claim trips to US and Japan off tax as well as computers and recording gear.

Alas, but.

Also, went and saw TISM with Tigris, Panic and Rhys. We ate Japanese food at "O-Yama" in the valley, I introduced Patrick to Asahi beer and it was all good. The opening act was good. They are Monster Zoku Onsomb. The second act sucked arsehole. TISM were, as per usual, top notch, even laying out the elusive country version of "Defecate On My Face". Rhys made off with a small 2" square of Humphrey Flaubert's costume. I made off with a copy of "The White Albun".

I also have lately picked up TRON. It was cool. Patrick and I are scheming for the finishing of the Strawberry*Drop DVD and it will be available at Supanova.

Additional : ADDED 1945 16/08/04
I have been instructed to hold off the ingesting of caffiene this week in an effort to see if it reduces the severity and occurence of severe headaches I experience, which are possibly blood pressure related. Fuck. I have to finish video and website design this week.

Bleargh.

Teh Drinks0r

I had a drinking weekend. That's my description. And. Here follows details.

Went and D&D at Paul's on Saturday. Spent the morning building new characters. Then had lunch. While buying lunch, I bought mead. Now there is only about a third of the bottle left. Then proceeded to watch Futurama and drink Sake. Got up on Sunday and worked in the morning. Then went to BAS. After BAS went to buy stuff for Rachel's birthday. Then went to the pub with Silverfox and Suntzu. A jug of Bundy & Coke later, I stagger to the bus stop with Nezumi Neko. Catch the bus to Stones Corner. Arrive at Coffee club for Rachel's birthday thingy. Drink Corona. Get a lift home with Owen and Gaye.

Sleep.

Uni today and also interview. I have a work trial and, if all goes well (PRAY OR DO WHATEVER THE HELL IT IS YOU DO!!!!), I shall have a job. A good one that will basically make my existence a tax dodge.

Oh please God let me impress them and get the job!!!

I Need Death. Really.

Okay, so on Friday I worked from 0800 to 1830. On Saturday I worked from 0730 to 1930. With a crippling flu. On Sunday I worked from 0645 till 1300 then took pills and passed out. Today I worked from 0600 till 2015. Tomorrow I work from 0730 to around 2000. I still have the flu. And am sore.

Seriously, it's unhealthy and if I bothered to check the award I'd probably be able to sue or something, but it's the last week before uni goes back and I need t3h cash. I also need to not be stoned on 2000mg of paracetamorel but it's the only thing that helps. My body hurts all over, my hands are cut and mangled and I feel nauseous all the time.

I have severly elevated cholesterol and high blood pressure. I may also be insulin resistant which is not only hereditary (half my extended family have it) but also the preliminary stages of diabetes. Oh and I'm also about 40kgs overweight. I have stated that I am now on the weight losing thing. What was awaiting me for lunch yesterday, before I passed out in bed from the flu? Vegetarian lasagne and fucking CHIPS! Chips = carbohydrate = sugar which I DON'T FUCKING NEED!!!! Thanks mum. Well the lasagne was made with reduced fat cheese, so I ate it (was filled with spinach and carrot anyways). Left the chips. What was awaiting me for dinner? SAUSAGE *FUCKING* PIE!!!! (Sausages sliced and layered with sliced tomatoe and tinned spaghetti layered with mashed potato on top, baked in the oven). The fucking FATTIEST kind of FUCKING MEAT available, let alone the fucking POTATOES on the top!!!!! Oh and the spaghetti which is fucking carbs again. I found some salad in the fridge and pointedly ate that commenting on the unhealthiness of the fucking pie.

Guess what was awaiting me for dinner tonight after I arrive home after a 14 hour day? FUCKING SAUSAGE FUCKING PIE!!!!! I had vegetable soup with the veggies off the sausage pie plate chopped up and chucked in for extra food.

What the fuck is wrong with my family? My mum fucking harps on at me about my weight and then when I decide to do something about it she gives me fucking lasagne and fucking chips, then a fucking fat filled starch topped shit pile. So much for support. I weighed 135kg at the doctor last Wednesday when she weighed me. Let's see how much I can lose before the end of the year...

Without my mother's fucked up cooking. I mean, seriously!

Doco Production Progress Report

It is now 1.21 AM and I have just spent the last 14 hours logging, capturing and verifying the footage that we shot for the documentary. Oh the pain. I have arse cramp, back cramp, neck cramp and computer cramp. I went through a pack and a half of CinnaBurst while doing this too. I've been capturing all the footage in at half resolution so that I can save some hard disk space. Once the final cut is complete, I'll only need to recapture the footage that was utlised. Also I've pretty much decided to use After Effects for the chroma keying. It just looks better. But I'll wait and see. Now for sleep.

The Things What I Been Doing

The morning after my sister's 21st on Friday night, I went back to the venue and packed up the lighting and sound and took it back to work. Went into the city after that and bought some manga and Volcano High and eXistenZ on DVD. Also found Cinnamon Gum! Woo!!! Finally!! Went home spent time with family.

Sunday was similar, cept I saw Spiderman 2 in the morning then went to church in the evening. Spiderman 2 should be called "Kirsten Dunst : Also, Spiderman as well." Not that I have a problem with that. Went to church and stuff. Had major bitch to Mel about the parentals and life in general. She suggested the possibility that I just haven't met the right girl yet. I hate it when people make sense.

Today I went into uni to start :

The Documentary Progress Report

Woo. I transferred all the material from large DVCam tapes into miniDV tapes so that I can borrow a camcorder from Andrew to start the edit tomorrow. Expecting a lot of work...

Ewww!!!!

So family (extended and the regular kind) are currently here. I have just seen photos of my second cousin's Cesearan labour.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!

Also...

UUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

And I have fixed up the bad bit of HTML coding that cause visitors to the webcam to visit the klokband.com WWP service. What the hell is wrong with me? My coding r0x0rs. Why am I like this today? I put it down to the damn dream. Been feeling weird all day.

GRRRRRRRR!

Day of Stuff!!!

Okay, so I spent the day backing stuff up and getting it off my firewire drives in preparation for the editing of Patrick's doco thingy. I been burning anime all day and have also managed to get internet sharing across to the iMac, which is now hosting shoujocam(tm) which y'all can check out by clicking on the button to the right, the little thumbnail of the current shot.

Also got my hairs cut. Makes me look a little trendier and such as well. Very schmick. Very bored today though. Had a great dream last night involving That Girl. You know the one that I've mention previously that I don't know who she is. I think it may be my brain giving itself what it wants - a fantasy of being with The One. Fucking brain. It gets what it wants but do I? No way.

Oh yeah. GO THE BLUES!!!! Nobody can complain about last night. 'Cept for Queensland. But I mean, the Blues looked like a football team. The Maroons looked more like the schoolboys in the Masters vs Sacrificial Lambs match from Monty Python's Meaning of Life. The NSW players were like, tanks. Men of Rugby. The QLD players looked like those that aspire, but were born to circus workers of diminuitive size. Who smoked.

30 White Soldiers on a Red Hill...

RE: The Title of the post - Read the Hobbit. Particularly inside the Misty Mountains.

Because Shawn asked (and because it may aid in the chick-pulling abilities of this blog), my teeth are fine. I had a cut and polish, which made me never want to eat again. Nice freshly polished teeth. Mmm. Also I have no holes or anything, but they took new x-rays (because the last ones I had done before my wisdom teeth came out in 2000). I love how I get a lead apron over my privates and the dentist goes behind a 2 foot blast wall. I feel so fertile now.

I got my uni results for my last two assessments today. Beagle Bones soundtrack got 82%, which is a distinction and the last Research Methods assignment got 75% which is the fourth highest mark in the class!!! I think it may make a distinction for that subject, but I'm not sure.

Gee I'm happy.

7.05.2004

Goodness

Andrew and I filmed Patrick on Friday for the doco I'm doing on him, then I dropped Patrick home. I had been home myself for about an hour when BOOM I kinda keeled over.

Thanks for the flu, sis.

Went to bed hella early and took pills. Woke up and when Andrew arrived we drove over to Patrick's to pick him up for World Free Comic Book Day so he could sign stuff at Ace Comics and we could film him doing it. Hung around while Patrick defaced a copy of The Wraith at the behest of Paul from Ace. I dropped him home and got home myself. Got online and well, well, well... BAS LAN at Rad's place. Headed on over and got stuffs.

Battle Royale II sucks. Like, really badly. Elephant is very good. Will be inflicting it on everybody. Now I found out I have to go to Beaudesert tomorrow for work. Fun, huh. Oh well. Least I shall be paid this week.

Now must prepare for the dentist tonight.

Sermon On The Mount Moscone Center West

Well... another Apple WWDC Keynote by Steve (Jobs). I tried to get there this year but apparently my kung-fu wasn't that good. No stream this year either though, so I had to wait until the various rumour sites and Appl had updated to find out. Nice stuff in Tiger, the next incarnation of MacOS X. New displays that match the G5's smooth look.

30 INCH LCD DISPLAY

OH MY GOD!!!! Of course, Apple being Apple they posted the following on their page:

But even more than saving you money, when you choose items that consume less electricity, it means that power plants don’t need to consume as much fossil fuels and thus emit fewer greenhouse gases. What’s more, building an LCD display uses less materials than building a CRT, which leaves more raw materials for your grandchild’s computer. And since they don’t need huge boxes, flat panels also reduce the cost of packaging and shipping. All of this helps to reduce dependence on oil.

Yep. Because the reason we all covet a 30" LCD is because they're environmentally friendly. Sure we do....

Ahhh. A man with a sharp wit. Someone ought to take it away from him before he cuts himself.

Peter da Silva

So on Friday we went and saw the new Harry Potter film. Damn Alfonso Cuaron can produce a vision. The movie tone fit the tone of the book sooooo well, Thewliss was the Lupin and Michael Gambon, well if he had played Dumbledore from the beginning, people would have been more accepting of his interpretation. He plays DD much more like the books portray him then the slightly wizend old wizard Richard Harris did. Not knocking ol' Macarthur Park though.

We also went out and had dinner at Toscani's and after a little bit of bill difficulty (they put a bunch of stuff on our bill we didn't have!!) it was nice. I also handed in 30-something pages of Beagle Bones write up and am now working on my RMP assignment for Friday.

Additionally I have now finished Maburaho and am 3 episodes into Stellvia of the Universe.

6.07.2004

Nothing takes the taste out of peanut butter quite like unrequited love.

Charles M. Schulz (1922 - 2000), Charlie Brown in "Peanuts"

I got the second and third Lord Of The Rings OSTs on Sunday before BAS. $15 each. Bargain. These are currently being ripped to the iBook for bulk LOTR musical phuns.

This of course followed by the BAS craptacular. The AV system in the Kindler Theatre broke down and we got shunted back to the old haunt in S Block. I much preferred S Block because you couldn't hang around out the front, back in the day. Unfortunately, most people who started doing that in the foyer of the Kindler Theatre just plonked themselves down on the floor outside the room.

Noisy bastards. I have grabbed all of Maburaho and Stellvia though. I'm such a slut for cute character designs.

Kill me now. Also, I think that once again I have been defeated by the single date barrier. It appears that once again I shall add to the large roster of Bill's Female Friends. Adding to the self dumping thingy, I like the general connotations of the "I'm sure you'll find a girl one day" thing when it comes from other girls. Because of the implied, "But you're just not good enough/too ugly/not ugly enough/too fat/too skinny/too big (thanks Zadie for adding that one to the melting pot of possible rejection reasons/abusive enough for me."

Ooh... New Harry Potter movie comes out on Thursday!!!! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!

You belong on a lazy-day beach or anywhere where

2 Days After The Day After Tomorrow. Which Was Two Days Ago.

Found this review. I like it.

The Round Up

So we went and saw "Day After Tomorrow" with the expectation of poorness. We were not disappointed. "Titanic" on land or "Independence Day" with the weather - that's a choice I leave up to you.

The "We" I'm referring to their was another First Date(tm) brought to you by Bill's foolish hope. It went well enough. We saw a movie, went up to Mt Cootha for coffee afterwards, I dropped her home. Now we shall see what hath been wrought...

I just feel so abnormally normal about the whole thing. It was nice, I think we both had a nice time, but it'll depend on her whether we go out again. When the trailers came on she did mention that SpiderMan 2 looked like a good movie to see. Subtle hint for Second Date(r)(tm)? In an ideal world with relational physics dictated by "10 Things I Hate About You", Harry-Ginny fanfiction and those movies where the guys friends are totally looking out for him when it comes to the ladies it would be.

In this hollow, ash-filled existence of hate, loneliness and despair it most likely means that SpiderMan 2 looked like a good movie to see.

Recorded strings today for "Beagle Bones". Now to spend all of tomorrow editing them to sound slick. So much post production. Next time I'm just gonna kill Salman Rushdie, collect the US$333 000 that student group from Tehran University is offering for his head and hire the London Symphony Orchestra.

Nice

I had a nice weekend. My folks and my sister went up for her engagement party in Rockhampton (her fiancé is from there) and I did assignments and watched movies, then had BAS last night. After that Kinoko, Tigris and Panic came back here and we watched DVDs and talked crap till the early hours.

That was nice.

I'm interested in someone at the moment. She's very sweet, pretty, funny, we have stuff in common and we're going out on Friday night. I'm just kind of hoping that it goes well and she wants to do it again. According to a faithful trusted party, she thinks I'm quite depressed/ing. Well if she's been reading my blog I could understand that. But it's not really the case.

Apparently I come through as all depressed and morose through this thing. I'm not really like that at all. I just find it carthatic to vent in text, particularly where I know my friends can read it and either tell me to wake up to myself, or at least gain some insight into why I climbed the tower with the gun.

I was in the car with Simon tonight and we were having a little D&M as you do when driving along and I brought up the fact that this girl thinks I'm depressed/ing and how I thought that was a little misjudged. Simon said not so much depressed as bitter and cynical. I think bitterness is an unhealthy amount of cynicism but I also think that cynicism is healthy. At least to a point.

My problem seems to be that I barely balance the scales on healthy cynicism and frequently dip into the unhealthy part. I think it's a defense mechanism that runs something along the lines of "keep people away and they can't hurt you" but what happens when you do want to get close to someone? You let the cynicism down and once you get hurt the wall goes up again, but thicker and deeper.

I am making such an effort not to do that lately, but I don't know if it's having any positive effect or repercussions. I wish I could get an informed opinion from a third person observer or something. Maybe "emotional surveyors" are listed in the Yellow Pages...

Soreness

Well yesterday I conducted a makeshift orchestra for "Beagle Bones". My shoulder is hurting like buggery. I feel like I was playing tennis all afternoon. It sounds pretty damn good too.

Congratulations to Ray and Rachel. Apparently the rock is big. Well that's according to Kathryn who got it from Mel. I need to finish my Apple Design Awards project and then go check out whether my tax refund will be better spent at russianwomen.com or belarusebrides.net.

Not Asking Much...

Oh the painful pain.

So I'm trying to get musicians to play this film score of mine for Beagle Bones & The Temple of The Maya. It's a pain in the arse. I'm a student with no budget, but I'm surrounded by musicans at uni. I go to the fucking CONSERVATORIUM of Music for fuck's sake! But! Can I get any string players? No fucking way.

The problem is that this is for my project study this semester which is only %50 of my mark. And do you think I could get any string players to play? No!!!! Brass was up for it, percussion was up for it...

Next piece I write is gonna be for percussion. At least they give a fuck.

Apparently they all want to play solo. Well news for them. You play a pussy little violin that need to be surrounded by 10 others in order to be heard!!!!!

If anyone knows any string players that aren't too precious or busy (and I accept that some of them would prefer paid work over this, if it's available), please contact me!!!

Here are the details :

I need 10 violin players, 3 violists, 3 cellists, 2 double bassists for
a recording session this Sunday from 12 - 4 at the Queensland
Conservatorium (Southbank, opposite QPAC).

In return for their services, they'll get food, their name in the
credits, a copy of the finished film on DVD or VHS and the opportunity
to play in a professional recording setting.

The music is not overly difficult, although sight reading ability is
important. I'd say AMEB grade 4 to 6 level.

Please forward this on to any players you know.

Also, I apologise for the swearing. I'm very stressed and pissed at the moment. Not a good combination.

Snorrrrrreee....

Completely irrational depression clouds me at the moment. I got an assignment back. 81.5% which I think is a credit, although I may be wrong. Had a good weekend away with Arts Weekend. Played a good gig on Saturday night.

But still feel depressed. Trying on different feelings to see what clicks and may be a good reason for depression

Singleness with no prospects anywhere in sight : feeling of hopelessness no greater than usual.
Lack of regular employment and seriously minimal fundses : nup. Not them either.
Feelings of alienation and futility : maybe, but I haven't started listening to Radiohead yet, so it's not that either.

I don't know. Been having bizzarre dreams lately focused around the idea that if I could go back in time with what I know now about how people in general think and myself, perhaps I wouldn't be so fucked up. I would tell certain people to go jump, I'd pay attention to other people more and I wouldn't have said or done certain things that would give them incorrect perceptions of me.

I feel like I'm expected to be this person sometimes and I don't want to. Like I'm expected to be all responsible and mature and stuff and not stoop to adolescent antics. I never had adolescent antics. I had "Look at those retarded fools. Like I'd be caught dead doing that," which now appears as, "I wish I had {insert thing here} when I was younger. Then it would have been written of as retarded adolescent fooling."

Right at this moment I regret having had ignored all the girls at my school (even the nice, not slutty ones - all three of them) on the basis that high school relationships are a useless waste of time spent on study, and besides neither of you is mature to carry on a relationship anyway (no car, no money, etc).

I regret having written certain people off as colorless when they were perhaps the most principled and focused people there.

I regret not really experiencing my adolescence by closing my eyes and hoping it finished as soon as possible.

I'm pretty sure this makes me a complete weirdo, but I can't help but think if I had done things differently, would I not be so unable to do seemingly normal everyday functional things that 95% of the world seems to be able to do like gain employment, have a relationship, not have internal psyche core melt-downs every three working hours.

I mean, right now I question what value I bring to anything, anywhere being that it seems I don't mean much to anybody personally, nobody values my creative art (well at least not enough to pay me for it), nobody seems to value me personally enought to care about the cracks appearing.

I now realise why it's so hard for me to get up in the mornings : sleep offers a nice escapism from the reality that is, "Wake up. Now expend your emotional and physical energy, get reamed in return. Rinse and repeat ad nauseum."

4.29.2004

The Big Gig

So I'm skiving off writing an assignment right now, and I've been not well this week, ridiculously tired...

Pretty shitty feeling, really.

Not much work so I've watched the rest of my X-Files DVDs. Nice.

Been working on a new track for KLOK as well as organising for Arts Weekend that is on this weekend. The others (Tigris, Panic, Katt) are down in Sydney at present for Supanova Sydney. KLOK is the resident band at Arts Weekend this year, so I am not going down. We get to make doof for adoring(?) fans though, so maybe it's okay.

Bleargh. I changed my dissertation topic to "Performance Practice in Contemporary Electronic Music : Engaging the Audience". There's just more literature on it than my old topic. Admittedly there's still bugger-all, but there's more bugger-all than "Music Technology and it's Effects on The Composition of Music for Picture". I just need to finish this thingy now and get it handed in before I have to go up Mt. Tamborine.

I realise that I have not been whinging about girls lately. I believe this is because while I still care, I'm currently kind of over the whole "oh woe is me thing." I discount certain potential females that I meet because I make an assessment on their maturity after meeting them a few times and I think that the fact that I make regular mention of "The cross I am forced to bear" leads to girls that I may consider or who may consider me to make the same judgement. At any rate I figure if I want to have some kind of healthy romantic relationship perhaps I should start making some effort to cultivate the image that I possess some relational health to begin with.

Or I could just walk around with $100 notes hanging out of my fly.

4.22.2004

The Truth is Out There... A Little To The Left. Stop. Go Back. Near The Kettle.

So I have the first four seasons of The X-Files, thanks to JB HiFi and their nice cheap bin scab DVD sales.

I'm about two or three episodes into the third season. Fave episodes so far would have to be "Blood" - Hallucinogens in the populace and hidden electronic triggers.

KILL.
KILL 'EM.
KILL 'EM ALL.

Or something.

Anyways it's all good and I'll probably buy the other seasons too. I know people think it started to suck after season 3 or season 1 or whatever, but I like it and it was a series that started when I started high school and also co-incided with my first usage of the internet. I used to hang on alt.tv.x-files and I just remembered something and googled it. I present Agent Pat Gonzales Dossier on the X-Files and I remember trying to download this in its original incarnation (one massive html doc with GIF screen captures) and being defeated by Netscape v1.0 (pulsating blue 'N' flayva) when it couldn't fit the whole HTML file on one floppy. So it's one of those things I remember in a variety of circumstances. I remember watching X-Files in the Palmer Dormitory at school, I remember watching it at home on the holidays and the pain in the arse when the Anasazi end-of-season-two cliff hanger occurred. I remember lining up for ages to meet Gillian Anderson at Westfield in 1995. I remember reading some X-Files graphic novels somewhere once.

And these act as launching points for remembering other sequences of memories.

It sounds kind of sad, I guess. If you know, you're like, too cool to have been into the X-Files, but it's true.

Walkies!!!

STEPS : 6093 | KM : 2.7 | CALORIES : 827

In an effort to regain my once slim and girlish figure (ie, the figure of a prepubescent girl as opposed to the strapping Russian peasant girl I exhibit now), I have started doing some walking and such.

To that end I bought a pedometer on the way home from work today and henceforth will be posting my stats each day. Like you care. And once a week we'll see what my work has wrought.

I hate being almost 22.

I was driving over to Geebung today to deliver a PA and there were a bunch of Clayfield College girls in uniform running in the rain.

*sigh*

Let's Sit Back And Wait

Well I put my application in for WWDC today. We'll have to see how it goes.

Since last year I've been teaching myself how to program in ObjC and Cocoa and I'm working on two apps, but I have to see whether or not the AUC thinks it's worth sending me again. I hope they do because now I have a better idea of how it goes so I can make even more use of it... Get there earlier for starters so I can get over the jetlag. And I have a job so I could stoppover somewhere on the way there or back I suppose.

I do have a rather spiffing entry in the Apple Design Awards this year, but we'll have to see what happens with it too. If we get a nomination or something I think someone mentioned last year that we'd get a shot at WWDC this year, but I'm not sure.

While my iBook is away I'm back to working on the iMac. Rendering sure does take a while, but I can't get Photoshop or GoLive to install on this machine. Also I keep mistyping stuff because actually have to push the keys down on this one where as on the iBook it seems as though my hands effortlessly glide over the keys.

BLANKET APOLOGY FOR MY APALLING SPELLING TO ANYONE I'VE BEEN IMing WITH THIS WEEK
I hope I get the iBook back soon.

Soooooooooooo Boooooooring

Picture : Business graduates starting jobs at the biggest Accounting firm in the world are taken for a few days to a remote resort where they are told about the company, what is expected of them and to allay any fears they may have about beginning a career in the most boring of all branches of mathematics.

Picture #2 : Bill, bored out of his brain with no net access (apart from this uber-pricey WiFi prepaid crap), no good TV and no time to do much at all.

We hacked the inhouse movie box in our room (am sharing with a workmate who is working the resort with me for this function) and could only unlock the adult channels. He's happily married, and I'm pure of mind and of heart and to tell you the truth I really couldn't care less about ugly people rooting on TV, so we reset the telebox.

That took about 5 minutes of time and it was the most exciting time I've had here.

The only thing making the boredom worthwhile is the knowledge that I'm getting a phat payoff next payday.

And now I have to go video more zaniness.

My Wishlist

ShoujoCam is back online...

Should be more online permanent-like once Optus install my ADSL. I had issues with hard disks today.

Because I work between three or four different computers depending on my location or need for either recording spaces, expensive audio monitoring or solitude I was packing a LaCie D2 80GB drive. It had FireWire (IEEE1394) and was great for video, audio, you name it. Basically it was a small case with a FireWire to IDE convertor in it, attached to a power supply and Western Digital 80GB drive, 8MB cache, etc.

Well, the firewire ports were connected to the PCB inside the case, not the case itself, so this heavy-duty feeling (6mm thick metal) case was only hiding the shoddiness inside. As soon as you push and pull the connectors (which you do with a mobile drive) a few hundred times, the solder weakens then fractures or breaks.

And you get dead ports or an intermittent connection.

Lucky me noticed this last week while I was working on a job for a client. Lucky I could trash enough junk off the internal iBook HDD to get it done. My main problem, however, came out of the fact that the drive is only 6 months old. We couldn't find the receipt and they wouldn't take a credit card statement as a proof-of-purchase. They would fix it and bill me for it, but 2 hours @ $45 plus parts and postage.

Plus they wanted me to back up the data!!! I mean, there's nothing wrong with THE DRIVE, just THE PORTS!!! Why did I buy the drive in the first place? Gah!!

Anyway, I bought a new drive casing today, plus a 120GB Western Digital Drive, 8MB cache and the guy at MusicLab also threw in another case for $100, so it cost me about the same as getting the drive repaired, but I know that the case construction on this one is hardcore.

Lesson, don't buy a LaCie d2 series drive if you want a long-lasting mobile solution.

Also, despair haunts me. I feel very unattractive. I'm beginning to resent all people with kids. Especially those who treat theirs like crap.

And I don't like multigrain bread.

The seeds get stuck in my teeth.

Large One Here

I feel shamed into updating my blog. The last update wasn't really an entry, but more of a quick cut and paste.

So here is a large amount of filled in stuff since my last real blog post. It's like inJohnny Mnemonic when Johnny has this huge pile of info in his brain that is pushing to get out and it all comes out in bursts occasionally. I hear they made a movie of that a few years ago. I may get it out one of these days. All right here goes. With headlines even!!!

Zadie

Zadie's all like, gone and stuff. And she hasn't been on the internet for ages because she's high falootin' it around Melbourne with here wacky Melbourne peeps. I feel all lonely. There's nobody (apart from Patrick) to textually bitchslap me into perspective and brainful submission about stuff anymore. And no more hugs from short cute girls. Or Cassie. Oh well, there's always Brisbane Supanove. And maybe that Melbourne anime con I was gonna check out this year.

Work

So I'm really not enamoured with work at all. I mean, I like this job but I hate having to get up so early and I hate getting home at the time I do. I think my natural body rhythms want to get up around 11am and go to sleep at 4am and then I'd be fine and happy, like I was in uni last year. But this getting up at 6am and going to bed at 10pm just feels weird. Plus this thing that I'm earning pretty good cash but it never seems to be enough. I always seem to be spending it on petrol or books or something.

Uni

Uni seems cool. I'm in week 3 and just got my booking for the Orchestral Hall to record my major project, but I feel kind of "out of it" because I'm only there one day a week.

KLOK

We have a gig this Friday night but are otherwise just working away. The only motivation we seem to have is when we have an upcoming gig. DoofPat wants to wait before we start pitching clubs and stuff, but if the only thing we get going for is gigs, wouldn't it seem logical to be doing more of them?

Travel
God, I want to go overseas again. Just for the stimulus, just for the taste of it, just for the feeling. I just can't afford it. I should be able to but I can't at the moment.

Moving Out

Kind of mutual agreement that I move out of home at the end of the year has been reached. Bout time. I'll be 22 and working and stuff, but I'm not looking forward to the whole "looking for housemates" thing. I'd rather buy a house and have a mortgage and have housemates who help pay my mortgage off, but I don't think that's realistic.

Lovelife

NULL

Well, yeah. There was a girl I was interested in but there's no reciprocation. There was another, but she's not right for me. Additionally, I found myself slipping into the bad escapist habit of reading soppy fanfiction, which combined with re-reading the 5th Harry Potter book has seen me dreaming of weird Hogwarts dreams.

Except the dream I had last night. I woke up to walls covered with beads of blood, found blood on my bedsheets and when I walked out I found that I was living in a sharehouse and when I asked one of my housemates what had happened, he told me that I had gotten together with a girl that night. I found myself wondering why it was her, and trying to remember what had happened, because I know the girl in real life, but I'm not interested in her at all. Then I really woke up and was all, "Phew. Thank God it was a dream," but then I started freaking out wondering what the damn dream meant!

Well, I hope that fuels discussion in the HaloScan Comments again. I'm off to have dinner and some psychoanalysis.

Calling All AR Developers

A big thing in wearable computing is the concept of Augmented Reality (AR). The idea that you can have your headset overlaying reality and augmenting it. Don't like the graffitti on the wall? Your computer can replace it with a digital scenic view or classic painting. You could attach virtual post-it notes to things. You could meet someone in the street and instantly have all their information scroll up in a sidebar so it looks like you're a people person instead of a freak wearing a computer to compensate for your personal inadequacies.

I'd like one to put up a display with stats, like an RPG or a renai game. That way when I'm talking to the girl I'm interested I can gauge responses and such correctly by having the data in a way I'm familar with and that I can easily understand and observe the effects my actions have on the situation.

That way I wouldn't feel like I feel tonight where I'm not sure if I said the right thing or freaked her out or what. Honestly. I hate my fucking life. I wonder if I can get some kind of warranty replacement for my human relational skills? I'm seriously considering it because these one's I'm running are fully defective. I don't know where I stand at all at anytime, I don't know what I'm doing 95% of the time and the other 5% I'm suffering from insane delusions that "Hey. This girl is cute, funny, intelligent. And she seems to like me. Maybe we could hit it off" that always turn out to be more gutting that a triple vindaloo made with senna leaves.

In other news, I'm a stark raving basket case, destined to be alone for all time while everybody overtakes me in life career-wise, relationship-wise and family-wise.

So filled with hate...

So I apply for iinet's bangin', well priced ADSL service. Then I get the following e-mail

A full Service Qualification has now been conducted on your nominated phone
line. Unfortunately your application for ADSL has been rejected due to
Incompatible Infrastructure ? RIM (Remote Integrated Multiplexer).

RIM (Remote Integrated Multiplexer) technology allows a communications carrier
to run fibre-optic cable to a location and then convert the fibre signal into
traditional phone services. RIMs are significantly cheaper to install in remote
locations where there is no existing copper infrastructure, such as new outer-
suburban housing estates, outback bush and islands. Unfortunately, ADSL cannot
currently be applied to phone lines running through a RIM.

As this is a phone line hardware incompatibility, there is nothing iiNet can do
further with the nominated phone number. You are welcome to supply an
alternative line number for iiNet to try for ADSL compatibility if you have
one, or you may like to consider one of iiNet?s many dial-up options.

And then, I start getting their NEWSLETTER in my e-mail!!! I mean, you won't subscribe me to your service, but you'll send me your propaganda!!!!!???!??!?!! And additionally, I can't get tel$tra cable either, and I'm not forking out almost a grand to get satellite. So now we have Tel$tra, the national telco unable to provide somebody who lives 23km from the center of Brisbane, in the middle of an established suburb with either the infrastructure or ability to recieive broadband internet.

Anybody else see something wrong with this? Oh, boy can I count the fucking ways.

Ewwwww...

Apparently, Karaoke on Friday night was not for Bec's birthday, so I stand corrected, both in my comments section and in outraged type on her blog.

In other news, I feel like crap. I kind of got a little summer flu from work last week. As some of you know, the result of four years of Music Technology studies at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music has seen me gain employment as an AV Technician for a company that does conference staging and general AV hire. Consequently a sizeable part of my job involves running all over Brisbane in an econovan delivering whiteboards, data projectors and other assorted AV items. It's been really hot this last week and jumping in and out of 30 degree heat into a 23 degree air-conditioned building then back through the 30 degree heat into a 40 degree van doesn't help if you're trying to avoid an illness. Additionally, my throat was hurting a little on Thursday night so Friday night karaoke didn't help none.

On the plus side I got to sing more Savage Garden songs to piss off Patrick, but Shawn sang too and because she's his girlfriend his outrage was tempered. I also sang "I've Got Faith" which for those of you who bother to stay up late and watch channel 9, is the theme from Star Trek Enterprise, and because my voice was all husky from singing "Bohemian Rhapsody" I nailed it all cool.

Now I'm sitting in the office at work on a Sunday night waiting for people to arrive so we can go and pull plasma screens out of the Brisbane International Motor Show. Fun.

Okay, so here's the lowdown. My band has it's webpage up at http://klokband.tripod.com. I went ice skating last night and got horriffic blisters from too small skates. Looks as though I shall have to buy a pair. At least I can afford to now. Yay, fun!.

Angel
You are one of the few out there whose wings are
truly ANGELIC. Selfless, powerful, and
divine, you are one blessed with a certain
cosmic grace. You are unequalled in
peacefulness, love, and beauty. As a Being of
Light your wings are massive and a soft white
or silver. Countless feathers grace them and
radiate the light within you for all the world
to see. You are a defender, protector, and
caretaker. Comforter of the weak and forgiver
of the wrong, chances are you are taken
advantage of once in awhile, maybe quite often.
But your innocence and wisdom sees the good in
everyone and so this mistreatment does not make
you colder. Merciful to the extreme, you will
try to help misguided souls find themselves and
peace. However not all Angelics allow
themselves to be gotten the better of - the
Seraphim for example will be driven to fighting
for the sake of Justice and protection of those
less powerful. Congratulations - and don't ever
change - the world needs more people like you.

Been Chillin'

And whooooooooeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

So I been kinda chillin' over that last week or so, what with no work or nothing. Watched the Kevin Smith back catalogue of films from the local Video Ezy. One thing that pisses me off is the shitty quality of the DVDs I've been hiring. Not the content, althought Black Knight is pure garbage, but the actual condition of the DVDs. I've had to take 3 back because my DVD player wouldn't read them or would stutter and shut itself down when it encountered bad encoding errors.

I'm used to seeing DIVX clips mosaic over like an epileptic vision switcher's paintbox control, but on these DVDs!!!

Also saw A Clockwork Orange all the way through, instead of in bits and pieces, as well as The Excorcist. It was interesting, watching a pretty hokey film rendition of demons incarnate in a pre-pubescent girl, followed by the exorcism itself.

This coupled with the treatment of Christian dogmatic theology in Dogma was quite thought provoking. In The Excorcist the two priests go through all this ritual crap to cast out a demon, when in reality the simple commandment to leave, spoken by any Christian (and I mean it in the "one who aspires to be Christ-like", not in the "Believes-in-God-At-Christmas") in the name of Jesus should have been successful.

I don't know, maybe I'm desensitized to violence and horror or maybe because I know the outcome of the game before it's even been played, but films like The Excorcist, Stigmata, End of Days, etc aren't that spooky or anything to me.

In other news, KLOK has another gig at SU Leaders weekend. When I pay off my credit card I'll finally get the website launched under it's own domain name, but for the meantime I am tweaking design.

I must go now and have lunch. At 8.45pm.

Boy do I feel rock and roll!!!
